At Esbjerg Airport, you should plan for extra travel time when flying outside the EU, for example to Aberdeen. Read more about what this means for you as a traveler.
Starting October 12, 2025, Esbjerg Airport will gradually introduce the new EU Entry/Exit System (EES).
The system requires all travellers from non-EU countries to be digitally registered upon entry and exit – including fingerprint and facial recognition.
The purpose is to digitalize and modernize border control, making it easier to identify individuals who overstay their residence permits.
Once fully implemented, passport stamping upon entry and exit will be replaced by digital registration.
EES does not apply to Danish or other EU citizens, but only to nationals of third countries (outside the EU/Schengen).
However, we recommend that all travelers to Aberdeen arrive well in advance. During the initial phase, waiting times at passport control should be expected.
